and collaborating talking i mean it’s one of the few times you when i get the

all get the visit with them all these unique settings and i do you look for it again to having
some of our listeners to take my class if not this headache last years of
acting class and the opportunities for the student days
going to be phenomenal i’d love walking through the exhibit hall that another
reason why i’m looking forward to being there where i can talk you know directly with the manufacturers
are the suppliers aiken sample some of their new products uh… and also act there’s a lot of good
prizes and raffles i know i’m given away to trigger point starts a whole set of
uh… trigger point walter there and then there’s plenty of fun i
mean if you like the dance uh… twelve fifty four it’s always fun and you guys
set it up the bass with uh… saddle up and back it’s awesomely just
make it easy so again i i i um… i hope everyone
attends it’s going to be a move on an informational conference and that’s
really what i look forward to well i’m with the on all of that is a
fantastic conference and has something for everyone his lack of educational
opportunities and we’ll be talking about your other class
in another interview and today we’re going to be talking
about your class on headache now i’ve i’ve
read before david if you actually suffered from debilitating headache in
chronic pain for over twenty years but are actually now pain-free um…
center if in fact pain what led you to come on the five spirit that uh… it
did uh… and today at like i said it at the
meeting a separate for so long that you know i was told that with genetic to
have a mother or that have terrible headaches of brother is been disabled by
them i was going down the identical path uh… and i’ve been told the doctors had taken
the medications i was sick and tired of being sick and tired so i know where
patients are coming from when they come into the treatment room uh… for me if i tried it was in the
side basically trigger point worked as an alternative to surgery my physicians were either madder
dismissive cook of my project into the van integrating massage therapy and to have
you know my program so for me a massage with a major part of
my recovery of course you know i think we learned a lot about healing
myself through the massage perfection a lot about nutrition and exercise and
rest stand you know just good mental state
now look uh… but massage with a major part of
that night that that there were a lot of dysfunction through my body that had a a
muscular organ actually brown well accounts like uh…
definitely came to the right place since many of us now in both leave then such therapy can
be very effective in treating all kinds of pain and certainly
had a sunday aircraft that’s really going to
happen to shed some light on that now uh… right now i’m eddie still uh… before we get into the details of the
class and that you’re still a practice practicing therapist that your business and that killer pain
relief an arm and have been sent nineteen ninety two uh… coming which again to stand apart
from your competition over the years well you know it’s a lot of what i
needed and when i was a patient you know i was at the hinges doing my best to try to get well and avoid surgery uh… and i’m inactive practicing erica so i understand the realities that all
of a speech daily you know in the treatment room i
realized very quickly out of massage school that i had to set myself apart
you know uh… for a major part now with the mail in the massage perspective over
twenty years ago i mean it just if you’d just it with how often people
didn’t understand so i realized they had to set myself apart in one of the ways that i did i do think took some of that
medical model and i applied at the massage in on the biggest frustration
was there were no schools out there to
really help the therapist communicate so um… what i do is i spend a lot of time
not a lot of time i have to take a little bit of time and quickly educate
my patient about why they experienced pain that is one way that i set myself
apart i do it on multiple levels one is how i
present myself i do present myself and uh… in in a professional manner you know how
we dress somehow we act and how we talked does project that certain image i also have always set myself apart
though whether i was doing and outcall ordered it was right inside of my office
i always presented somewhat of a clinical setting up i would bring trigger point
flip charts with me i would still take even postural photos if i was doing out
calls with somebody i guess to help them understand the postural relationships uh… and then uh… so taking a little
bit of time to educate my patients about posture uh… how muscles art are playing a role in the past year
how how those muscles and create pain in their body whether its neck pain
headaches or whatever uh… how that translates into other
areas of their life and then just trying to set up a program where they can help
maintain themselves and they were totally reliant on me they did come to
me is needed but to try to give them the tools for
self care when they weren’t there also so that they had recommended and and
other friends and family and co-workers to come to me so that those are the different ways
that i tried to set myself apart over the years well they obviously worked because your
check helpful and now you’re out there teaching
arafat’s on how to do what you do art are you gonna be teaching any of
that they anyway to tell yourself apart at the canadian inside your head
definitely you know that that’s part of what i do you know part of blood on
speaking it was a implement in the treatment very modest not out there
running around between the seminar every week you know i’d love to sing but you
know i love being in the treatment group though i want my patients to understand
that headaches in this case you know typically headaches in neck pain coming
and in hand but those uh… headaches are a symptom
and we want to address a red to take them on the top two q component other
pain all that meant a lot of people will tell you how their their headache they may have a
hormonal components of the the very valid they may have by grain headaches that
are uh… triggered a by things that we may
not be able to uh… back from a muscular point of view but i will share with you a tremendous
amount of headaches are of muscular origin in that very easily shown to our clients that we
have set thirty twos in their joints and show them what’s under stress might typically do it with the
photograph by you know a picture is worth a thousand words so i real quickly will take a couple postural
photos of my client and i let the picture tell the story i’d
let them see their forward head posture they’re rounded shoulders or hide
shoulder and then i’d smoke into the muscles and
pulled all these bones in the place and here is where they should be and because
of the position they’re in there is one of their stress as we treat them and we find trigger
points were able to connect the dots from the posture and the pain to their trigger point in
their head and if you know they’re very grateful that no bacon delight at the
end of their time open typically by the time they’ve gotten to a massage
therapist they’ve tried a lot of other health care providers to resolve their
pain did outside a lot i covered from head
aches allot my self and uh… went through all kinds of different sort of treatment from acupuncture and
drug therapy uh… drug trials actually in a move
that all really map yeah and uh… and five so i think the
fashion now selling a very large business but i
i don’t i think out helped me more than just about anything else and you get what some of the things that
you’re mentioning really before it had posture the rounded
shoulders that sound like you’re talking about really treating the cars at the headache
and that i’ve just been sometimes do you want to operate any more on that you’re right and it’s getting a patient
islanders stand that you know it’s a i think that
uh… yes uh… who almost all of us have had a patient come in and they tell
us how they go to the chiropractor in the chiropractor cure them on x_-ray
tell their spines out how they’re atlas is out of their access is out or maybe they want to some other maybe
they went to one or two p that for some other medical doctor then show them that they had a bold king
death skin now that’s what they’re relating
all their pain too and at the but still we know that even that they have the somewhat of a bolt in many cases there
still is very significant muscular component that we could help by just resolving posture certain muscles are chronically
shortened certain ones are linked in them they become chronically weak and it’s just quickly educating our statement our patients to test don’t
know like we didn’t understand when we first got in the massage it might be
very clear to us when we looked at our patients we instantly see if that’s what
we’re trying to do but it’s communicating her findings to
our patients that i think the important and um… you know when there again that’s
what i talked about happily throughout classes how do you communicate your findings
like for example one of patients on the table need such a trigger point in their
neck and then it refers in the back to their eyeballs or a briefers and to the side of their
head and they go on just whiter wrong or they make a comment like no i’m also screwed up i think we’ve all had our
clients a comments like that i want to instantly turn around those
neuro linguistic so i want them to know they’re not wired wrong they’re not all
screwed up this makes total sense your postural position has this
muscle stress this trigger point is well documented
and i like the circle of radar might trigger point starts if your character
laminated i’d circle my charts with the weather
race marker so i can wipe it off after treatment with a little bit of water on
a rad but i killed on the trigger point
tonight show them you are not wired wrong you are not screwed up this is a
classic trigger points and that totally undermines their
foundation about their headaches i want to iraq their foundation a little
bit all agree with them i may not be able to get a royal ready your hormone
headache i may not be able to get ready your migraine headaches but i can get ready
to fight to get rid of both the majority of your headache should have a muscular
origins isn’t that worth of going for it and i have to explain and have to have
them understand why we can’t help and what how the muscles are involved in
what’s happened that the other professions to a great job doing it ideas and i feel that what the new
technology that massage therapists have in their hands we’re going to be a powerful force more with the research everything that’s
going on so uh… with that you know uh… one of
the ways that i had to keep people it’s again not all out fill them up to cure on film a picture of a trigger points so
that they can understand a little bit more of what’s going on so i think the
biju walls are very important salman capital and i can i can think of plane comes with that
kind of work probably came out of my mouth especially when we’re dealing with
that headaches because they’re so debilitating and and frustrating and i love back at you take that as a opportunities to educate
and not just what that person keep that mindset but there’s one thing
really wrong with them or that they’re made proper their defective whatever that so you know it’s so
important because white people like you been there you know what it’s like the
tell them that the headaches behind your eyeball ernest by the your head well you know we’re gonna talk about in class
on the failure of the five muscles that you know doctor trudeau and find into
research is to the states these are the five muffle the incident could target if
they come in with the frontal headache for these are the pics muscles the cat first juror for temporal
headaches you know when spirit even the ordered that you could
be checking them based on the research that that out there you know of course you know best how
your client came about receiving that trigger point you know could change the
order of it but you know i just think it’s important
that people understand that right they’re not wired wrong there that
that they’re not you you know they want to be neat but you know i want them to
know that they’re is this was there it is a thought g_q_ component for their headache that
we can resolve the you know some people part of their label it as their headache
and you may not but the people but you know they may not want other
headaches to be dog but they will be uh… de didn’t grateful to you if you
can help the muscular components of it because it’s only going to get worse
over time with them their postures gonna get worse their trigger points will get worse the
stress on the joints will get worse sampling well david where some of the uh… main
causes of headaches or cognitive you’ll be covering in your class and learning
to treat well you know in my class like i said
i’ll be talking albee overbilling things like the posterior all be talking about you know how that uh… and communicate those structural
findings you know quickly easily fast how the layout treatment plans like i don’t know how
about you but i’d know what that my treatment they goes on i sometimes can’t remember you know what
that uh… right thigh indiana or the left side that they were having the pain
on you know from the time they walk into your treating her with that the last
pointer that’s quiet so i’m actually a little tips on how i
keep track of that i’m also gonna show you in class like how add some educating
the client i start to lay out the treatment plan for myself based on the research like doing a few
things basically i put my cliff notes mikey
keeps whatever you want to call it that i call it the research the facts right in front of the client then i’d go
over with the you know real quickly uvm showing them you know quite connect
posture i connect their you know trigger points for me and by the way out a plan for myself it
has some explaining it to them i’m getting it very clear in my head what
i’m going to do and hiking you can really do that in just a minute we all
do it anyway we just typically that don’t take the
time to like documentum log it and say it verbally one setting dates to
patients and i think it’s important that we gauge the patient staff planting come where necessary of the problem and and and and uh… i get more organic issue there carving anxiety for the
muscular issue that maybe they can happen impact on a nerve daily life and
not just coming to you for refinancing really important it is they have to know were coming from right in with that uh… you know then
that thirty open the door to the real life you wonder stay in the may start a
in further guidance and that’s where you can help guide them
properly tor you know resources for them to get
proper self-care for exercise for nutrition whatever but they’re going to
come to you for resources maybe it’s other things that you selling
your clinic you know maybe at the top of colour whatever but all those are a little ways that you
can build your practice and really people look at you as the true health
care provider when you start to explain to break down why they have the pain of
what you’re going to do tappan alling now and it can’t help but um… uh…
offer anything out for characters tools or or guiding specifically for headaches or
just for their practice in general well yeah it does not think so but it
does in many different ways uh… i have developed a third of trigger point
certainly also ahead dvd programs uh… as everything’s designed to work
on its own everything’s also designed to enter work with one another there’s also a
range of motion and muscle movement chart their posture charts that i
developed and all of these came about because
unless they’re pissed in the treatment room trying to make it happen make a
living educate my patients so they were told i had to develop that
they weren’t out there were there other trigger point church
yesterday i thought we were however i organized mind different i put my name
columns and then i’d put like in taiwan all the muscles in the back of the neck and then in that column i lay them out
the top muscle is the trip easiest is most superficial muscles but as you look down the column it’s
going superficial to deep that’s exactly how we treat so dec i’m tired of looking at charts
were i feel like when i was a little kid in the restaurant to get like this
little place mat that heather head like a trade you’re supposed to
find a little hill animals in the tree can you relate to that question and and many character like that they’re
not easy to follow a nama buried issue along kenneth static but on visual so
yeah i’ve tried to make it you teach even visual things are columns
superficial to deep everything’s color coded way uh… within my dvd programs i
have as much as an hour and ten minutes of uninvolved dissection there’s over
ten hours of doing in one of those programs are very methodical their logical um… everything’s you know broken down
by compartment by region and uh… you know i just try to make it simple and
easy ’cause that’s really what high it’s basically everything i had to look up
figure out and reorganize to make it easy for myself because i haven’t you know it’s challenging the
state focused in the treatment for him you’ve gotta watch your time you’re
thinking about your finances you know there’s so much going on in your head
that you’re trying to clear al you’ve got to be focused on the patients
come up with the treatment plant quickly on whatever they just thrown at you so if i’m able to take research and hang
that right in front of myself and references very methodically during the course of my treatment it just helps
me get good solid result so that’s what i’ve tried to create with total systems i’ll tell you can pretty buddy with whom
i have not seen david chart they are really beautiful and functionally
haiti’s i think you have one charter point stand-up chart but you can flip through food editor certain faction so you can
put it quite by not mean you have to hang on the wall and they had been eliminated so you can
hire circle that without really i was really impressed
the first time i saw them in ajeeb with people about the fact that
are personally have a terrible memory and you know i could look at hike and
look at any email and they liked what they had two times
not that i need to remember like in setting up this interview period and i
look at it and i go to my counter right now what would that time if they’re not
really can’t remember if i don’t have it right in front of the so i think you know i can’t be the only one out
there like that there is lots of people in our industry and profession need to
have something right there say they don’t you know not the book
that they’ve run back in between fashion to look at go where were they trigger
points what was it that i was prepared to work
on first act i think that you’re grateful i got the link urge people a check that
out when they come to canada or they don’t take a look on your website
but they’re here really awful uh… today that i’m curious you define that it’s going to be a great
clapton it’s gonna fill up last year your coffins were overflowing uh…
though in the event that people can’t make it into your classes there any on
particular piece of advice that you have i wouldn’t even fewer interested in
learning to work with clients suffer from pain and headache or in in taking
uh… bitter outer workshop yeah well what if you can’t do you know
uh… whether you can come to the conference or not by a third year that
you know try to make it happen um… i would do encourage you to go to
my website can’t help dot com ur david kent dot com we’ll get to do the same
spot mean clicked in the particles and there is close to fifty articles
online that you can download nights printable pbf virgins uh… that you can you know if you’re a
therapist you could utilize them as referenced in your clinic if your eyes copia mentally ill print off multiple
taking the class if you’re an instructor use them for that they talk about
everything we discuss today’s they’ve talked about ever about it even talked
about how to help you find a job if you’re if they’re obsessed by the time
at a clinic for so long i’d i’d know what it’s like for kids they’re pissed
out there looking and i know what kind of employers are looking for title so being have articles on popular i have articles on how the educate your
patients using the technology talking about trigger point help to assess them quickly they’re all
short little article so do they have also click on the watch and listen also if you’re at their this i think
it’s important that you’re getting bodywork i do get regular bodywork
outside of my clinic i get bodywork from different types of therapist i think it’s important that you
experience it needs and understand what other therapists are doing i’d also feel that at the therapist it’s
important that you can take a little time everyday for yourself to be just a
little bit of a yoga and stretched you know for self-care and the connect
on what you are telling your patients that that’s one thing that tell them
it’s another thing to do it and um… the lab saying is that you’re able to take my
quest the ready to have a lot of fun and learn from that going to be a great time contactable in fact i agree with all
that especially coming to take your class and getting warm bosch and bodywork we all need to do that i know that people there are some people
